Objects of the Association (Final Proposal 16 January 2010)
For the benefit of the community:
- To be a custodian of useful digital models of Earth; where these models:
- are made openly available on the Internet for reuse by anyone, without restrictions, other than for this Association to be attributed as the custodian of the models;
- are created from contributions made in the spirit of the creative commons.
- To encourage reuse of these models by:
- Making them available in a format that can be implemented without restriction;
- Improving their availability through the use of emerging and open technologies;
- Welcoming editing and improvements that increase the quality of the models; including:
- accuracy;
- precision;
- coverage;
- semantic consistency;
- classes of landmark;
- integration between individual contributions; and
- ease of integration with other geographical products.
- Providing the ability to distinguish between the legal designations and observed realities of landmarks (e.g. as-designed vs. as-built).
- Undertaking efforts to gain recognition as the preferred supplier of geographical data models, either as standalone products or in conjunction with like minded bodies in other jurisdictions.
This is the final proposed Rules for the meeting on 16 January 2010. This final proposal evolved from earlier proposals.
